Installed Garden Sites
Earle C. Clements Job Corps Academy Green Committee
The Green Committee has established a site for their gardens adjacent to the Job Corps Culinary Arts facility. Eight raised beds have been installed and a 8 ft x 100 ft area has been tilled for typical row crops. The gardens will be used to teach the students how to grow and prepare their own food. The students will use their gardening knowledge to help schools, churches, and other organizations develop similar gardens throughout Union County. In the spring and summer the Culinary Department will work with the students to harvest and cook fresh vegetables and herbs. Green Committee Coordinator Nyra Syers-Ford says of the program: “Teaching young people to grow, harvest, cooks, and preserve their own food will support healthier lifestyles at the Academy and throughout the community.”

Future Garden Sites
The Garden Coalition has been working with many different local organizations to identify sites and garner support and funding for additional gardens to be installed in 2013. As commitments for each garden are granted, information will be posted here about the site and organization. Check our News/Events to see if a garden is being installed in your area or check the Contact page to learn how to get involved.
